What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a global movement that encourages people to take action for the planet. For one hour, people switch off lights and reduce electricity use. This simple action highlights the importance of protecting nature. In 2026, Earth Hour celebrates its 20th anniversary. Over the years, this movement has reduced electricity consumption by an average of 4%.
Small Actions Make a Big Difference
Take part in your own way during Earth Hour. Go for a walk and enjoy nature. Try stargazing under the night sky. Switch off phones, TVs, and gaming consoles.
These small actions help build sustainable habits. They also raise awareness about climate change and energy use.
Join the Movement
Waterford City and County Council will switch off non-essential lighting in iconic buildings across the city and county. Join your community and take part in Earth Hour Waterford 2026.
