Waterford FC 0 Derry City 2
Derry City secured their first win on the road with an easy victory over Waterford City at the RSC.
Keith Long had to plan without Ryan Burke who was returning from suspension but who picked up a knee injury in training so he named the same side that drew with St Pat's last week.
Derry City also started with an unchanged side after their win over Pats with the league's leading goalscorer Pat Hoban spearheading the attack.
Both sides kept it tight in the opening minutes of the game with the Blues forcing three corners but didn't threaten the Derry goal. Derry's first real chance arrived on the half hour when Pat Hoban slipped the ball to Will Patching but his curling effort just went over the crossbar.
However, a quick counter attack produced a penalty for the visitors on 38 minutes when Hoban found Danny Mullen and his curling ball into the area was meant for Daniel Kelly but Robbie McCourt's tackle caught Kelly on the ankle and Alan Patchell pointed to the spot. It was Patching who stepped up to slot home past Sam Sargeant.
Waterford's first effort on goal came on 67 minutes when Rowan McDonald curled a shot over the crossbar but the Blues were punished 8 minutes later when Kelly raced into the area before shooting at Sargeant. The keeper could only parry the ball into the path of Hoban who fired home for his 9th goal of the season.
All hope for the Blues was gone nine minutes from time when Podge Amond crashed his shot off the woodwork and Derry saw out the game for their first win on the road this season.
