Waterford County Board Chairman expresses 'frustration' and 'disappointment' with latest Covid-19 restrictions

The Waterford County Board Chairman says that the government decision to ban spectators from matches is "hugely frustrating" and "disappointing."

Up until now 200 people were allowed be part of an outdoor sporting event, which meant that a small number of GAA supporters could attend matches.

Last night saw the government move matches back behind closed doors, and limit outdoor training to groups of no more than fifteen.

County Board Chairman Sean O'Regan says the move has come as a hammerblow to the GAA community.

"We've experienced lock-downs, we've experienced no games, we've experienced having to play Championships in a short space of time in a narrow window," he says, "this just seems to be another bit of a hammerblow to all the volunteers, all the clubs, all the supporters and players out there. It's extremely disappointing and frustrating."

Sean O'Regan says he appreciates that the government need to strike a balance in their approach, but from a sporting point of view it's disappointing.

"I know the government are trying to balance the economy and the finances but from a GAA point of view having people who have been lifelong supporters and volunteers in a club to, you know, local County Finals coming up - even underage games, you can drive your kids to a game but you can't go in. It's hugely frustrating.
