Waterford enjoyed a ten point win over Westmeath in the opening round of the Division 2 camogie league at a wet and windy Cusack Park this afternoon (0-14 to 0-4).

All Star attacker Beth Carton shot eight points for Derek Lyons' side while St Annes forward Roisin Kirwan hit four from play. New Déise captain Lorraine Bray raised two white flags.

Waterford started with just seven of the team that lined out in the All Ireland quarter final loss to Tipperary last August. Three points apiece from Carton and Kirwan gave the visitors a 7-3 lead at the break.

With the elements behind them, Carton slotted five dead balls (four frees and a 45) while Kirwan and Bray added singles from play.
