Tramore's Derrick Williams has agreed on a deal that will see him move to the West coast of the USA for two years.
The 28-year-old has spent close to five years with Blackburn Rovers and recently underwent surgery for an injured quad which potentially could have seen him out of action for the remainder of the Championship Season.
Luckily, the three-time-capped Irish international is an American passport holder and will not be taking up a spot on Galaxy's books as an international player.
The Galaxy manager described Williams as "An experienced defender who has played at a high level in England and internationally".
Dennis te Kloese continued to say "We believe Derrick will strengthen our defense and add competition to the position. We are excited to have Derrick join the squad and look forward to his contributions to the club".
The Lancashire club had agreed to cancel the final three months of his contract allowing the move deal to go through, with Williams crediting former Galaxy star Robbie Keane as a key influence, telling the club's website "I know Robbie Keane, he spoke very highly of the place. I am very proud to rep Ireland. As soon as I knew they were interested I wanted to come here.”
