The SETU Waterford Wildcats’ season came to a surprise end last night.

Despite having won the regular season title, the Wildcats went down 69-66 at home to Kerry side Utility Trust St. Paul’s in the playoff quarter-finals.

The Wildcats led narrowly 21-18 at the end of the first quarter but the visitors hit back with a superb second quarter to take a 46-37 lead into the half-time break.

The sides went blow for blow in the third quarter scoring 14 points each, and needing to outscore their opponents by ten late on, the Wildcats brought the visitors back to within three points but time ran out – ultimately losing out 69-66.

Sarah Hickey was top scorer for the Wildcats with 21 points.
