The SETU Waterford Wildcats' are fourth in the Super League table and level on points with the second and third-placed sides following their come-from-behind win over Killester in the Mercy Gym last night.
Tommy O'Mahony's side had nine points to spare at the final buzzer, winning 87 to 78, having been deadlocked at 52 points apiece at the end of the third quarter.
The Wildcats got off to a poor start, finding it difficult to score against a solid Dublin defence and at the end of the first quarter trailed by four.
It wasn't until the third quarter that Wildcats found the key to breaking down Killester's defence, helped in particular by some excellent shooting by Nae Davison and Sarah Hickey. The home team continued to build momentum in the final quarter of the game to secure an 87 to 78 point win against their Dublin rivals. Waterford are now level on points with Killester and remain in the all-important race for a top-four finish to qualify for the Super League play-offs.They're on the road next weekend when they travel to Cork to face Fr Mathews.
In the men's First Division, the Vikings triumphed in a thrilling battle with the Galway Titans in the SETU Arena last night on a scoreline of 84 points to 79.
In a contest where the game was tied seven times and the lead changed 11 times the Vikings held on well to secure the points.
Idris Joyner was outstanding for the home team with a double-double of 33 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Jack Ryan on 22 points.
The Vikings are home again next Saturday when they host Limerick Sport Eagles in the College Hall on the Cork Road.
