Despite the loss of captain Kellyann Hogan, Waterford ladies football manager Pat Sullivan expects his team to put it up to Cork in Saturday's All Ireland Quarter Final.
The Ballymacarbry midfielder jetted off to Chicago last week after helping her team to victory over Donegal. "Kellyann was always going travelling on a J1. She is a massive loss, there's no point in saying anything else. We were delighted to have her for the last two games, especially the Donegal game. It's a door closing for Kellyann, delighted with what she has given us all year, but it opens the door for somebody else. Someone will get the nod come Saturday and they'll get the chance to step out in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and play for Waterford."
Teenager Emma Fitzgerald scored six points last time out in just second senior appearance for the county. "She is just a super kid. We're delighted to have her. I think you're going to see a lot about her in the coming months and the coming years. She's definitely a future star."
This will be the third meeting between these two Munster rivals in 2024. Waterford prevailed in the league while Cork emerged victorious in the Munster championship. Sullivan says that they need to make a good start on Saturday. "They're going to go at us early in the game, we know that. They live on high energy. We're going to fight on our backs. There'll be no excuses come 3 o'clock on Saturday about missing this player and that player. We're ready to go and we need to perform."
Throw in is at 1.15 on Saturday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
