Local Weekend Winners

Waterford-based owner Kay Browne had her colours carried to victory at Cork when her 18/5 shot Chiricahua came with a smooth challenge up the home stretch to win over hurdles.

Coming in as a reserve in the final race of the afternoon at Cork Tallow trainer Ken Budds combined with Ardmore jockey John Gleeson to score with 33/1 outsider Stormalong.

Dungarvan jockey Sean Houlihan was on the mark at Ludlow on Sunday producing 6/4 shot Gris Majeur to lead two hurdles from home eventually recording a two lengths victory.

There were two Waterford winners at Sunday’s point-to-point fixture at Bartlemy in County Cork.  Colin Motherway was on the mark courtesy of Pour Les Filles who had four lengths to spare over the runner-up at the finish. Tallow jockey James Hannon gave Just Hannah a patient ride before coming through to lead at the last fence eventually scoring by two lengths.

Rich Strike was a shock 80/1 winner of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

With Harry Derham moving out to train on his own pupil assistant Charlie Davies now moves up to the role of assistant to trainer Paul Nicholls while Dungarvan born Conor Houlihan who is also an amateur jockey moves into the pupil assistant role.
