Waterford hurling selector Peter Queally is disappointed with the low ticket sales in the county for Sunday's Munster championship clash with Cork at Walsh Park.
Rebel fans are set to outnumber the home support this weekend. "I won't lie to you, I'm disappointed," Queally told WLR Sport. "I played in an era, the late 90s and the early 00s, when we were never outnumbered. No matter where we went, Waterford always had a fantastic support; the best supporters ever. I always said it and players that played with me always said it. It meant a lot to us. It is disappointing to hear that more than likely we will be outnumbered in Walsh Park. Having said that, I'm not overly surprised. I have seen the drop off. You do notice it on the sideline that the crowds have dwindled in the last couple of years. We can't cry about it; we can't give out about it. We have to try and change people's mindset around it. Hopefully, we will get a good result and a good performance and people will get behind the team again."
He says that a top three finish in Munster is a must this year. The Déise have crashed out of the championship early in the past two seasons. "We have to come out of it, we have to emerge from Munster. We all know at this stage, it's been well documented, how poor our record has been. Success is just coming out, first, second or third. Just to be in that top three. Anything other than that is a disaster for us."
