Tramore born Jim Goodwin is the hot favourite to be appointed the new manager of Scottish Premier League club St Mirren.

Jim who is 37 years old has been the manager of Alloa Athletic since 2016 and in season 2017-2018.

He led Alloa Athletic to promotion to the Scottish Championship and last season he kept the part-time club in that league against all the odds.

St Mirren parted company with their manager Oran Kearney yesterday and immediately Jim Goodwin was nominated as the front runner to replace him.

The Tramore native played a total of 153 games for  St Mirren between 2011 and 2016 and he was their captain when ``The Saints'' won the Scottish League Cup in Hampden Park in 2103.

He was one of the most popular players ever to play for St Mirren, a fact which was acknowledged by their chairman Gordon Scott yesterday.
