Waterford’s explosive start laid the foundation for victory as they proved too strong for Tipperary in their Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Phase 1 Round 2 meeting.

The Déise wasted no time asserting themselves, hitting Tipperary with a scoring burst that ultimately decided the contest before half-time. By the 13th minute, Waterford had already found the net three times, with Rian Hallahan grabbing one after reacting quickest to a save from Danny Cashin.

That early goal spree left Tipperary chasing the game, and while they showed plenty of heart, they struggled to contain a sharp and clinical Waterford attack. Points from Conor O’Meara and Cillian Morrissey helped steady things, but the gap remained sizeable.

Waterford continued to keep the scoreboard moving, with Dara Gough influential from placed balls, including a two-point free. Shay Healy also chipped in from play as the Déise stretched their advantage.

Tipperary did keep battling and were rewarded late in the half when Reuben Grace split the posts, but they still trailed 3-8 to 0-5 at the break with a big task ahead.

To their credit, Tipperary came out with far more intent in the second half. They upped the tempo and began to find their range, with O’Meara, Hugh Carolan, and Morrissey all adding points as they tried to claw their way back into the contest.

For a spell, Tipperary built momentum and showed real fight, but every time they threatened to close the gap, Waterford had an answer.

Gough again proved reliable from frees, knocking over another two-pointer to steady matters and keep Waterford comfortably in front.

Tipperary kept pushing right to the end, with Conor O’Meara adding a point from play before Danny Cashin landed a two-point free late on, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Waterford held firm in the closing stages to see it out on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-14, with their devastating first-half goal burst proving the difference.
