Waterford athlete Diane Behan competed at the World Powerman Duathlon Championships in Alsdorf, Germany today.

She finished seventh in a highly competitive event which attracted elite athletes from across the world.

The 80k event consisted of a 10k run, 60k cycle and another 10k run and it marked the first time Diane had competed at this distance.

Diane was in fourth position after the cycle but, speaking to WLR from Germany, she admits she found the race challenging.

“I struggled on the last 10km. It was always going to be a challenge to finish but I didn’t want to quit,” she said.

“My biggest achievement today was to have kept going. I’m still smiling.”

Diane has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years. Competing in the 55-59 age category, she claimed European duathlon gold in Portugal last year.

She previously won gold at the World Championships in Romania in 2022.
