Waterford FC 0 Shelbourne 4
Waterford FC put up a valiant effort in their opening home game of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division at the RSC as they went down to Shelbourne by four goals to nil.
The Blues were always expecting to be under the cosh and Shelbourne dominated the game from the opening whistle. They were awarded a penalty on 26 minutes when Roma McLaughlin was fouled by Dan Burke but Maeve Williams saved brilliantly from Nicole Murray.
It took the Dublin side 64 minutes to break the deadlock when Leah Doyle’s corner was headed home by substitute Mackenzie Anthony and they were two up three minutes later when Doyle scored directly from a corner from their right.
A second penalty on 70 minutes was converted by McLaughlin and Shelbourne were awarded a third penalty a minute later but Williams again denied Murray with a fine save.
Pearl Slattery scored Shelbourne’s fourth on 74 minutes when she again converted a Doyle corner.
