Waterford FC Women 4 DLR Waves 2
Waterford secured their first home win of the season with a 4-2 win over DLR Waves in an exciting encounter at the RSC.
The Blues opened the scoring on 31 minutes when Chloe Atkinson delivered an excellent corner to the six yard area where Lauren Walsh was on hand to meet the ball with an excellent header which Eve Badana could not stop from going into the net.
Dan Burke was injured in defending a DLR attack in injury time at the end of the first half and from the ensuing corner kick Rachel Doyle fired home through a group of players to level things.
Waterford were back in front on 59 minutes – another Atkinson corner was dropped into the six yard area and in the ensuing melee Walsh poked it home.
She was involved in the DLR equaliser on 71 minutes when she conceded a penalty which was converted by Amber Cosgrave before Waterford went back in front five minutes from time.
A break from Olivia Shannon and Erin O Brien saw them break through the DLR defence and Shannon waited for the keeper to commit before slipping it left to O Brien and the substitute blasted the ball home.
And O Brien made sure of the three points when she broke through in the final minute racing into the area before firing under Badana.
