Cork City FC 2 Waterford FC 1
Waterford fell to their seventh league defeat of the season as they conceded two late goals to Cork City at Turners Cross.
Matt Lawlor arrived in Waterford on Saturday night and faces a huge uphill task if Waterford are to end this losing run.
It was a positive first half performance as Cork were content to let Waterford have the ball but chances were few and far between.
However, the breakthrough arrived for the Blues on 53 minutes when a Nav Bakboord throw in found Conan Noonan on the endline. He skipped past a Cork tackle before slotting the ball into the six yard box where Tommy Lonergan was on hand to poke it home.
Cork ramped up the pressure and forced Waterford back and with a minute remaining of normal time, Bakbooard was adjudged to have fouled Cathal O Sullivan and Rob Hennessy pointed to the spot. Evan McLaughlin stepped up to fire past Stephen McMullan for the equaliser.
And they weren’t finished as six minutes into injury time Kitt Nelson won possession and fired to the net for the winner.
