
Waterford athletes delivered an outstanding weekend of performances at the 123.ie All Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships, held at TUS Athlone, with medals flowing across multiple events and age groups.
Leading the way was Isabelle Gaffney of West Waterford AC, who produced a superb double in the U17 category. She claimed gold in the 800 metres on Saturday in a time of 2 minutes 11.93 seconds, finishing just outside the championship record and ahead of Freya Renton, who took second place in 2.12.91. Gaffney returned on Sunday to secure her second title, winning the 400 metres in 56.26 seconds, setting a new personal championship best and finishing ahead of Tara Rose Smith from Donegal.
There was further success for Finisk Valley AC through siblings Eddie Raicevic and Lucy Raicevic. Eddie won gold in the U18 pole vault on Sunday with a clearance of 3.05 metres and also picked up a silver medal in the 60 metres hurdles on Saturday. Lucy added to the family's success by winning gold in the U16 pole vault with a height of 2.56 metres.
Waterford athletes also secured a number of silver medals across the championships. Niamh McGrath of Tramore AC claimed silver in the U16 pole vault, while Ali Lennon and Siofra Moloney, both representing Ferrybank AC, took silver in the U16 high jump and U15 long jump, respectively.
Bronze medals were also earned by Cora Miller in the U18 60 metres hurdles, Luke Nevin in the U12 600 metres, and Clodagh Scanlon in the U13 shot putt.
It was a hugely successful championship overall for Waterford athletics, with athletes from clubs across the county competing in strong numbers and delivering performances of the highest standard.
