Hibernians missed out on the opportunity to be crowned the Premier League champions when they lost their first league game of the season in Southend Park. A win or even a draw would have clinched the title but a Niall O’Toole goal on 43 minutes gave Southend United a one nil victory.

Hibernians remain on a total of 39 points while Southend have 34 points.

Hibernians can still clinch the crown if they get a positive result against either Tramore Rangers of Tramore AFC in their remainng two games.

At the bottom Bohemians drew 1-1 away to Waterford Crystal.

Dungarvan United remain bottom with 11 points. Bohemians have 13 points and Tramore Rangers 14 points.
