Former Déise manager Derek McGrath, current Cork coach Donal O’Rourke and three-time All Star Noel Connors are part of the new Waterford Hurling Review Committee.
Former Chief Executive of Waterford City and County Council Michael Walsh from Ballyduff Upper will chair the group which was appointed at the February meeting of the county board. McGrath, O’Rourke and Connors will sit on the committee alongside Alan Dunne (Lismore), Paul Gleeson (Dungarvan) and Conor Mulhall (Ballinameela).
“The committee have got to work and their intention is to have a full, in-depth review of all structures in our county,” Waterford chairman Neil Moore told WLR’s Lár Na Páirce show. “They will be reporting back to the board intermittently for the next number of months. In order to allow them to do their work properly and thoroughly, we would be saying July or August before they would be back to us with recommendations. For the sake of the future of Waterford hurling, have a good look at all our structures from top to bottom in the county. Let the lads come back with what possibly will be radical proposals. This is a vision that will take Waterford hurling forward for the next 20 or 30 years and it’s something that we really do need.”
A Football Review Committee will be appointed at the next county board meeting.
