Waterford FC women lost out on Leeside yesterday as they went down 4-2 away to Cork City in their first ever Munster derby.
Aoibh Thomas and Erin O’Brien were on target for the Blues but three goals in seven minutes saw Cork take the three points.
Colleen Kennedy gave the home side the lead on 15 minutes before Thomas fired home a volley for the visitors seven minutes later.
Lauren Homan restored Cork’s advantage approaching the hour mark, and an unfortunate own goal from Jessica Lawler had them in the ascendancy just two minutes later.
Ciara Fitzpatrick’s 65th-minute effort all but secured the result for Cork, Erin O’Brien’s 80th minute strike proving consolatory for Gary Hunt’s side.
They take on Bohemians at home at the RSC this coming Saturday at 3pm.
