Elite Under 17 League (Southern Section)
Galway United - 1 Waterford FC - 3
Matt Keane
Following on from their thrilling victory over St Patrick's Athletic in the cup on Wednesday, Waterford FC recorded another incredible victory in the league on Saturday in Galway.
They had to come from behind to keep their unbeaten record intact, but the team managed by John Furlong and coached by Gary Hunt are on fire at the moment and they duly came home from the west with another three points against a team who were in third position prior to kick-off.
Wilson Wawery gave Galway the lead after 33 minutes.
Two minutes into the second half Colm Whelan headed the equaliser, scoring for his 7th consecutive game.
Charlie Heffernan who saved an injury time penalty against St Patrick's Athletic four days previously did likewise after 54 minutes.
Harry Rogers took the spot-kick for the Tribesmen but Heffernan displayed his class once again to save the penalty by diving to his left and turning the ball around the upright.
Sean Tracey put the young Blues in front on 58 minutes when he finished off a super move involving Jack Larkin, Niall O'Keeffe and Jack O'Donnell.
Niall O'Keeffe was involved in the third goal also as he played in Ciaran Brennan who found the net with the outside of his right foot. That 88th minute strike sealed the game for this exciting and extremely talented outfit.
This team have been drawn at home against either Cork City or Shamrock Rovers in the Under 17 Mark Farren Cup semi-final.
Those two teams play each other in midweek, and should Waterford win, the final will be played at the RSC.
Elite Under 19 League (Southern Section)
Shamrock Rovers - 1 Waterford FC - 3
Waterford FC's Under 19 side continued their recent excellent form by beating Shamrock Rovers away in Roadstone Park and just like their Under 17 counterparts they had to come from behind to stretch their unbeaten run to seven league games.
The Hoops took an early lead after just ten seconds through a long range shot from Sean Boyd which gave goalkeeper Paul Martin no chance.
The Blues got back on level terms courtesy of a superb strike by Owen Wall on 37 minutes.
Shortly afterwards Wall struck once again and Waterford went in leading 2-1 at the interval.
Dara Keane who had replaced Justin Croke after 55 minutes made it 3-1 seven minutes after his introduction with a fabulous finish.
The home side were rattled at that stage and they had Micheal O'Connor red carded near the end for a bad foul on Paul Martin.
Overall an amazing weekend for Waterford FC with all three teams winning .
