UPDATE 11.30am: The game has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. A further announcement on the rescheduling of this game will be made in due course.
Waterford FC will face Cork City this afternoon in the second round of the EA Sports Cup at the RSC.
The sides will meet again in a crucial league this Friday.
The Blues saw off UCC in Round 1 with a 4-1 victory and will confident coming into this game after a 2-0 league win away to Limerick last Friday.
Second half goals from Gearoid Morrissey and Garry Buckley gave Cork a 2-0 win in the sides earlier last meeting this season but the Blues will put their 100% winning record in all competitions in 2018 on the line in this cup fixture.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Blues boss Alan Reynolds said, "I was delighted with the win in Limerick on Friday night because I think that we deserved it and we worked hard for it on a very heavy pitch.
"I’m not saying that we were fantastic but there was good character. That’s what I liked about us tonight and that’s what we are. We dig in, work hard and give everything for the shirt. It’s great to get another win but we’ll move on and look to the next game.
"We picked up a couple of knocks in Limerick so we’ll see how everyone is come Monday. We’ll freshen it up a bit and give players the chance but I won’t make too many changes to it. We know Cork are a good side and we play them twice in five days. We’re all looking forward to these games and hopefully the results can go our way.”
Reflecting on Friday’s win over Limerick and ahead to Monday’s game, Blues skipper Paul Keegan said, "We’re absolutely thrilled to get the win on Friday night in Limerick because it’s a tough place to come and get a result. They made it hard for us but I think we deserved to win.
"The game was probably a bit open at times which is probably something that we didn’t want. It’s a big pitch here, not so a nice place to play, but we got the win h and we’re delighted with three points which was our aim.
"We have two games coming up in the space of five days against Cork City and they are going to be two very tough games. We’ll be looking to do well in both games and see if we can do well in the cup. We’ll be looking to turn them over after they beat us in the first league game down in Turners Cross."
