Sligo Rovers 0 Waterford FC 1
Waterford FC got back to winning ways as they took all three points at the Showgrounds with a deserved one nil victory over Sligo Rovers.
The game was under threat when referee Gavin Colfer deemed an astro turf patch in one of the goalmouths to be dangerous and after frantic repairs from the Sligo groundstaff the match got the go ahead – starting fifteen minutes late.
Waterford’s first chance came courtesy of Conor Parsons who was put through by Christie Pattison on 20 minutes but Ed McGinty saved at his near post.
However, great work from the whistle at the start of the second half brought the breakthrough for the Blues.
The ball was floated into the box by Rowan McDonald where it found Christie Pattison and he fired an unstoppable shot past McGinty for the lead.
It was no more than the visitors deserved and moments later, McGinty made a top class save to deny Podge Amond who met a Darragh Power cross .
And Amond had another gilt edged chance seven minutes from time when he sprung the Rovers’ offside trap but he fired straight at the goalkeeper.
