Waterford FC are on the road to Éamonn Deacy Park tonight as they bid to record a first win at Galway United in 17 years.

The Blues go into the match in second place in the League of Ireland Premier Division table, having won both of their previous away trips this season – a 3-2 win at Sligo Rovers before a 2-1 success away at Derry City.

Keith Long’s men have collected 9 points from a possible 15 – having beaten Cork City at home between losses to Dublin sides Shelbourne and Bohemians, and Galway have proved a real bogey side for the Blues in recent times.

Galway have picked up 7 points from their opening 5 games, drawing four and winning just once, a 2-1 home win against St. Patrick’s Athletic three weeks ago.

The Tribesmen occupy fourth position in the league table going into Friday’s game, as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign.

Waterford FC boss Keith Long knows that it’s a big ask to take three points from Galway.

“We know what to expect from Galway. They’ve got some really good players. They’re well drilled & well organised, and John Caulfield has them playing in a certain way that is really effective. We will go up there with the right mindset & attittude, and be ready to go win the duels & play how we can”.
