Waterford FC have announced the signing of striker Padraig Amond.
The deal - which has been expected - was confirmed on Friday morning with Head Coach Keith Long saying "His leadership qualities & experience will be invaluable to us. He’s a model pro and we hope that he’ll pass on those qualities to some of our younger players to help us in the Premier Division."
Amond comes to the RSC with big shoes to fill following the departure of Ronan Coughlan to sister club Fleetwood Town.
Coughlan smashed the club's season goal-scoring record last year on his way to becoming the top scorer in the First Division, netting 37 times in all competitions.
Amond - who signs from Woking in the National League - has plenty of League Of Ireland experience having made over 100 appearances with Shamrock Rovers, Kildare County & Sligo Rovers before setting sail for Portugal and England where he has spent the last 13 years.
The Carlow native has scored 216 goals in his career and will be expected to keep that trend moving upwards in the Premier Division.
“I’m delighted to have signed; delighted to be back home," he told WaterfordFC.ie, adding that he's "Looking forward to seeing what the year is going to be like, so I’m really pleased to be here – it’s a really exciting time."
