Waterford came from two goals down to secure a share of the spoils in an entertaining pre season friendly at the RSC.
The home side got a taste of the Bohs attack when Promise Omochere worked his way into the area after just two minutes but a superbly timed tackle from Eddie Nolan denied the visitors. The Blues fell behind after just four minutes when Omochere got behind Darragh Power on the left and his cross into the six yard box was met by Ali Coote who slotted home from close range.
Another defensive lapse allowed Bohs through on thirteen minutes but Brian Murphy saved Waterford’s blushes with a superb double save - first from Kris Twardek and then from Omochere. However, there was nothing he could do about the resultant Coote corner which was met by Rory Feely with a powerful header.
Waterford pulled one back four minutes before the break when Grant Horton fouled Richard Taylor and following advice from his Assistant Michelle O Neill, referee Kevin O Sullivan pointed to the spot. Cian Kavanagh stepped up to send Talbot the wrong way and fired to the bottom right corner.
Blues should have been level a minute before the break when Kavanagh dispossessed Horton, raced forward before slotting the ball to Yass En Neyeh who slipped it to Phoenix Patterson but he dragged his shot across the goal.
The second half was a much better performance from the home side as they took the game to the visitors with Kavanagh denied by a superb save from Talbot on fifty six minutes and Bohemians continued to soak up the pressure. The defence was finally breached twelve minutes from time when new signing Louis Britton rose to meet a Patterson cross at the back post and he gave Talbot no chance.
And Talbot denied Patterson three minutes from time when he dived full length to touch away his shot from inside the area.
The only downside was a facial injury to Killian Cantwell near the end of the game which necessitated his being brought to hospital by ambulance and he is now a major concern for Ian Morris with the season less than two weeks away.
