Waterford FC came from behind to secure a 2 - 1 win over Sligo Rovers at Abbottstown as the Blues continue their pre season preparations ahead of the opening game of the League Of Ireland Premier Division on February 16.

In an even opening period both sides had chances though the Blues could count themselves lucky not be behind thanks to two great saves from Sam Sargeant and a block from Ryan Burke who denied Ellis Chapman what looked like a certain goal on 25 minutes.

Waterford's best chance came from Padraig Amond who met a cross from Kacper Skwierczyński but his effort was blocked for a corner.

Sargeant could do nothing about the Sligo opener on 51 minutes as Chapman's shot was deflected en route to goal and the Waterford netminder was wrong footed.

The lead lasted just 3 minutes as Conor Parsons stung Ed McGinty with a great effort and Amond was quickest to react to the rebound.

Waterford took the lead on 66 minutes as Parsons raced through on goal before slotting the ball under McGinty.
