After losing at home to Wexford FC the week previous, Blues Head Coach Danny Searle made three changes to the starting line-up for this contest with Cian Kavanagh, Darragh Power and Yassine En-Neyah coming into the team with two of them playing a pivotal role in the win.

It was Kavanagh that had the first chance on 14 minutes when he got on the end of Junior Quitirna shot that book into his path, but he fired over the bar. The Blues struck the front three minutes later through the same player when Quitirna sprayed the ball out to the left for the striker, and he slotted a left-footed shot past Darragh Burke.

Waterford grabbed a second goal arrived on 27 minutes when Tunmise Sobowale got free down the right before putting the ball to the back post for Darragh Power, and after his ball back into the area was tipped onto the bar by Cobh keeper Burke, Wassim Aouachria was on hand to tap home from close-range.

It got better for the Blues five minutes into the second half when Tunmise Sobowale started the move when he played the ball out to the right for Kilian Cantwell, who in turn set up Aouachria, and he beat defender Michael McCarthy before arrowing an unstoppable 25-yard left-footed strike to top far corner of the net past keeper Darragh Burke.

Callum Stringer got his name on the scoresheet within two minutes of his introduction on 65 minutes when the midfielder peeled away from his marker to get on the end of Niall O’Keeffe’s free-kick into the penalty area, and he beat Burke with a brilliant right-footed finish.

The Blues scored a super fifth goal sixty seconds later when Cian Kavanagh spotted the run of Junior Quitirna out on the left-side, and  he brought the ball onto his right-foot before firing a shot to the far corner past a helpless Cobh netminder.
