Waterford FC 2 Bohemians 1

Two goals in as many minutes just before the break set up a Waterford FC victory as they took all three points against Bohemians at the RSC in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.

John Coleman had Rowan McDonald back after suspension while Kyle Whyte was suffering with illness during the week so he dropped to the bench in the only change to the side that lost to Sligo.

It was nip and tuck for most of the opening half with half chances at either end but the game exploded to life at the end of the half.

The first goal came from the penalty spot after Tommy Lonergan was bundled over by Leigh Kavanagh and referee Marc Lynch had an easy decision to award Waterford their first penalty of the season. Podge Amond dispatched the penalty to the bottom corner for his seventh goal.

Just moments later a Horton flick on from a Stephen McMullan goal kick saw Conan Noonan pick up the ball and he curled a wonderful left footed effort past Chorazka off the upright for Waterford’s second.

The second half presented more chances for the Blues with Darragh Leahy going close with a side footed effort and then Chorazka made a magnificent save to deny Dempsey.

Bohs pulled one back on 72 minutes when they broke through Dawson Devoy and he fired under McMullan to the bottom corner.

Waterford were coming under increasing pressure and it was McMullan who was the hero deep in injury time as he got down well to parry an Adam McDonnell shot from close range.
