Waterford and Clare meet this afternoon in a crucial match in this year's Munster Senior Hurling Championship.

The Deise are on three points while the Banner have two - and a win would likely be enough to qualify either side for this year's All Ireland series.

Former Waterford forward Eoin Kelly says the Munster Championship has been as competitive as ever this season.

He believes the Deise can leave Ennis with two extra points come full-time, even though it will be a big ask.

"There's a lot of scores in that Clare forward line. It's a huge game, but it's a hard place to go. Ennis is a hard place to go. I don't think we have a great record there, so they're going to be up against it. Hopefully, the lads have a bit of confidence over the last two games. They can give it a good rattle. They're well good enough."

The former Passage man is hoping to see a bit more movement from the Deise forward line - and believes they will need to be at the very top of their game this afternoon.

"You want to go out and upset them and try and win a match away from home, which is hard to do in Munster, really hard. We've seen it over the last couple of years. For Waterford to go out and upset them it will be difficult, and looking at the Tipperary match, their forward running was very straight. There was no diagonal runs. It looked a bit tired."

Fond memories of Ennis are few and far between for Kelly - but he's hopeful Waterford can rip up the script and almost certainly book their place in the Munster Final.

"I remember going up there years ago - Again, different years, different eras, and we had good teams. We got absolutely walloped one year and we thought we had a brilliant team. They have a chance. Of course, they have a chance. They've beaten Cork, who turned around the All-Ireland Champions for the last three years. Of course, they have a good chance, but it's going to be tough. It's going to be 70 minutes of mental strength, of physical strength, of concentrating on every ball and not making mistakes."
