Waterford Castle have been beaten by Loughrea in the All Ireland Quarterfinal of the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup at Limerick Golf Club.

 Sally Brennan notched the Castle’s first point with a resounding 7 & 6 victory over Geraldine Keely and Margaret Guerin added a second when she beat Anne Kelly 4 & 3.

 Vivienne Keller lost out on the last hole to Tanya Whyte before Mary Kennedy fell to Mary Glynn 4 & 3.

 In the final match it went to the 17th hole before Jane Beatty sent Loughrea through with a 2 & 1 win over Margaret Gallagher.

Waterford Castle ladies will carry local hopes in the last weekend of All Ireland Golf Finals at Limerick golf club.

They will face Loughrea in the quarterfinal of the AIG Women's Intermediate Cup this morning (Thursday).

Vivienne Keller is first out for The Castle at 9.20 and she will be followed by Sally Brennan, Mary Kennedy and Margaret Guerin while Margaret Gallagher will play in the final match.

Four Titles

Following on from last week’s finals at Belfast’s Shandon Park, 32 clubs from 17 counties will play over four days at the Munster venue, with four All-Ireland titles up for grabs.

The AIG Men’s and Women’s Junior Cups, the AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield and the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup will be played to a conclusion.

Thursday sees the start of the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup and the AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield, with the Quarter-Finals taking place.

Among those competing on Thursday are Cruit Island in the AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield. The Donegal club are one of the most north-westerly clubs in the country, and are competing in an All-Ireland Finals for the first time in their history.

The Quarter-Finals of the AIG Women’s Junior Cup begin on Friday morning, with the Semi-Finals also taking place in the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup and the AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield.

With no Limerick teams competing this weekend, Tipperary GC will hope to bring the AIG Women’s Junior Cup the short trip across the county border. They are one of three clubs competing this week from the county.

Saturday sees the first two champions of the week crowned, as the AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield and the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup are played to a conclusion. The AIG Women’s Junior Cup reaches the Semi-Final stage, while the AIG Men’s Junior Cup begins.

Both AIG Men’s and Women’s Junior Cups will be decided on Sunday, with the Semi-Finals and Final of the Men’s competition taking place, sandwiched either side of the Women’s decider.
