Waterford Boxers Set for National Senior Elite Championships

The National Senior Elite Boxing Championships get underway this Friday, with four Waterford athletes set to compete on the national stage.

Fighters from clubs across the county will represent Waterford as Ireland’s top elite boxers battle for titles, rankings, and national recognition.

Four Waterford Boxers in Elite Action

Waterford will have strong representation across multiple weight divisions.

Each boxer will look to make a major impact as the championships progress through the weekend.

Friday Night Quarter-Finals

The championships begin on Friday, January 9th, with quarter-final bouts starting at 6 pm. Doors open at 5 pm.

Two Waterford athletes will be in action on the opening night.

Adam Kiely of Saviours Crystal BC competes in the 60kg quarter-final, where he faces Lee McEvoy of Avona BC, Dublin.

Later on the card, James “Shamie” McDonagh lines out in the 65kg division. He takes on Luke Hall of Rochfordbridge BC, Westmeath, in what promises to be a highly competitive bout.

Zara Breslin Faces Major Test on Saturday

Attention then turns to Saturday, January 10th, when the semi-finals take place. Boxing begins at 3 pm, with doors opening at 2 pm.

Waterford’s Zara Breslin will step into the ring in the 60kg semi-final. The Tramore BC boxer faces a stern challenge against Olympic champion Kellie Harrington of St. Mary’s BC, Tallaght.

Meanwhile, Kelyn Cassidy of Saviours Crystal BC is also part of the Waterford contingent competing across the championships.

Strong Waterford Presence on National Stage

Overall, the National Senior Elite Championships provide a major opportunity for Waterford boxers to test themselves against the country’s best.

Importantly, strong performances could open doors to future international selection and elite progression.
