Waterford FC came out victorious on a drama-filled night in Dalymount Park.

The Blues found themselves two goals behind to Bohemians at half-time before a resurgent Blues came battling back in the second-half.

An own goal just after half-time halved the deficit before Waterford native Darragh Power rifled the ball home after a scramble in the box to level matters.

New signing Sam Glenfield capped off a fine individual display firing home from the edge of the box to send the Blues fans into raptures.

The drama didn't stop there as a dubious penalty was awarded to Bohemians in added time. Fortunately for the Blues, Dayle Rooney smashed his effort off the crossbar and Waterford made the trip back south with all three points and sitting third in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

Blues Boss Keith Long was delighted with both the result and his group of players.

"We were brave in the second half, we gained a foothold. We were aggressive, we played the game on our terms and we deserved to win."

"The boys have been fantastic for this club all year for me as manager, for us as a backroom team. The boys have exceeded everybody's expectations, but we don't want to give the supporters hope and then take it away from them. We want to try and move forward, we want to try and progress, to try and keep progressing ourselves for as long as we possibly can.

Long highlighted the character shown by his squad in Dublin and over the course of the season.

"We had to have strong words at half-time with the players. We had to put more demands upon them.

"They have to learn quickly from moments like tonight, to come here, go two nil down but they showed great character, great personality for what they did in the second-half and they stood up to a man and were counted and that's what we demand from the players.

The Waterford manager paid tribute to the squad and what the aims were at the beginning of the season to where they are now.

"They drive their own standards. They're a good group to work with. They're a very young squad.

"We never put any limits on the season. We wanted to be competitive coming back into the Premier Division. We've shown that we're more than competitive."

Matchwinner Glenfield was honest with his assessment of the first-half performance.

"We weren't at it in the first-half. We got a bit of a shouting at half-time and then we came out on fire.

It was a big moment for the midfielder on loan from Fleetwood Town as he bagged his first senior goal.

"I'm ecstatic after that. Brilliant to get the three points and what a way to get my first professional goal. It was brilliant to win it. But to win in it that fashion, it was unbelievable."
