Shelbourne 0 Waterford FC 1

Waterford FC made it double delight in Dublin as they took all three points in another battling display against league champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Interim manager Matt Lawlor named an unchanged side for his final game in charge with Rowan McDonald returning to the bench following his recent injury layoff.

And they got the perfect start after just four minutes when Podge Amond headed home a Conan Noonan free kick. It was comfortable for the Blues as Shelbourne looked distinctly out of sorts.

They had to wait until the 18th minute before a fine long range effort from Ellis Chapman was palmed away by Stephen McMullan and two minutes later Amond nearly caught out Kearns again with a cheeky lob that just went over.

And McMullan produced the save of the game in added time when he stretched full length to touch away a John Martin header.

The Blues had further chances in the second half when James Olayinka had a shot blocked on the line by Kameron Ledwidge and then Kearns denied Amond again when he parried an excellent shot from the Blues’ captain.

Shels threw everything at Waterford in the final minutes but could not break through and the Blues held on for a deserved win.
