Waterford's Munster Championship challenge has come to an end following a heavy defeat in Walsh Park against the All-Ireland Champions Limerick.

Limerick led Waterford 1-10 to 0-7 at half time in the Munster Championship in Walsh Park. Playing against a strong breeze the All-Ireland champions were being led by Aaron Gillane who scored 1-4. His goal arrived in the 15th minute.

Peter Casey and Paddy O'Loughlin chipped in with a brace apiece. Pauric Mahony scored five of Waterford's seven points. Stephen Bennet and Jack Prendergast were the other scorers.

A Gearoid Hegarty goal early in the second half gave the home side a mountain to climb and it was the Shannonsiders who went on to dominate the second period.

Waterford were reduced to 14 players just before the hour mark when Pauric Mahony picked up a red card.

Shane Dowling, a Limerick substitute picked off some wonderful points for the visitors and they ran out winners by 20 points.

Final score. Waterford 0-10. Limerick 2-24.
