Walsh Park will reopen for club games in mid August according to Waterford county board chairman Sean Michael O'Regan.

Phase 1 of the project is ongoing and O'Regan says that the city venue should be ready for the knockout stages of the senior hurling championship. "The first two rounds are gone to different venues. That's just to make sure that the pitch side of the construction is bedded in. We should be good to go after that."

He is happy with the progress made on the project. "Phase 1 is going very well. The construction company have finished with the roof and the existing stand. The timber seats have been removed, they have been replaced with the bucket seats. They are now after moving over to the North Stand."

Minister of State for Sport Thomas Byrne will visit Walsh Park today to discuss Phase 2 of the redevelopment with county board officials.
