Shane Walsh shot 1-5 as The Nire began their defence of the Conway Cup with a 4-18 to 1-3 win against Ardmore at a windswept Fraher Field on Saturday night. Ciaran Keating netted after 20 seconds for the Seasiders but goals from Walsh, Shane Ryan, Darren Guiry and Michael Moore ensured that the champions got off to the perfect start

In the second game of the double header, goals from Michael Curry, Willie Hahessy and Billy Power gave fourteen man Rathgormack a 3-8 to 0-4 win over Clashmore in atrocious conditions. James Power was dismissed on two yellows after 24 minutes but Rathgormack rose to the challenge with Conor Murray starring at centre forward.

2018 runners-up Kilrossanty defeated Portlaw 0-16 to 2-4 in Carrickbeg.
