The SETU Waterford Vikings lost out to Limerick Sport Eagles in The UL Arena on Saturday night on a scoreline of 97 points to 80.
The game was a lot closer than the score line might suggest but superior finishing from the Eagles ensured the win for the home team.
Idris Joyner top-scored for the Vikings with 31 points, followed by Jack Ryan on 17, with Osi Oshogwemoh shooting 14.
The Vikings are on the road again next week away to Tolka Rovers Dublin.
While the Wildcats return to the court later this afternoon when they head to Dublin to take on DCU in the Super League.
While they are coming off the back of a loss in the league, Tommy O Mahony's side had a big cup win in the interim.
They beat Glanmire in the opening round to send the league champions packing on day one for the second straight year.
The Wildcats are currently fourth in the standings with just six points separating them from the top of the table. DCU meanwhile are one place behind them.
