Having her first ever race over the extreme distance of 35 kilometers in St. Anne's Park, Raheeny, Kate Veale of West Waterford AC performed brilliantly today.

Not alone to win the Irish championship in a time of 3.07.03 but Veale finished a close second in the international race behind the winner, Poland's Agnieszka Ellward timed at 3.05.09.

This is  Kate's 14th national title between indoors and outdoors.

It was also a great day for Waterford in the open races. Maeve O Connor (Waterford AC) won the U18 race and sisters Ava (U16) and Doireann Hickey (U16) were 2nd and 3rd respectively in their 2k and 3k races. The Hickey sisters are nieces of former Waterford Olympic race walker Jamie Costin.
