Waterford’s Tom Ahern made his senior debut for Ireland this evening in their 34-5 win against Georgia in Tbilisi.
The Ardmore native came on in the 62nd minute, the Munster star replacing Cormac Izuchukwu in the second row.
Ahern becomes just the ninth Waterford man ever to represent Ireland at senior level – and the first since Jack O’Donoghue lined out for Ireland against Japan in June 2017.
He follows in the footsteps of the likes of O’Donoghue, Ben Cronin, Barry Bresnihan and Bill McKay in representing his country in a senior international.
On the night itself, tries from Tommy O’Brien (2), Craig Casey and Nick Timoney handed Ireland a comfortable victory – as Sam Prendergast converted all four tries and added two penalties.
Ireland are next in action on Saturday when they take on Portugal in Lisbon at 7pm.
