Waterford's Thomas Barr will be competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
That's after the Ferrybank AC man formed part of the Irish 4x400m Mixed Relay team who smashed the national record in Nassau, Bahamas last night to win their semi-final at the World Relay Championships.
Barr, Cillian Greene, Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley came home in a time of 3:12:50 to win their heat and book their place in the final - qualifying to Paris in the process.
Adeleke and Mawdsley also qualified by winning their semi-final with the women's 4x400m Mixed Relay team - where they were partnered by Phil Healy and Sophie Becker - winning in a time of 3:24:38.
A delighted Thomas Barr and Cillian Greene spoke to Athletics Ireland after the race.
🗣️ “We knew in our hearts of hearts that we had everything needed to qualify…We did exactly what we needed to do today to get the job done.”
