A huge challenge faces Waterford FC this evening.

They go to Bishopsgate for a game which on paper looks like easy pickings.

Longford Town have only won two games all season. Their fate of playing in the first division next year has been known for some time. They have failed to flatter in the Premier Division and will spend the next twelve months trying to get back there.

But, and it's a big but, this is their last home game of the season and their fans will want to be treated to a good farewell from the top flight.

The Blues could have made life easier on themselves in recent weeks with performances not returning the results they would have wanted.

They trail Finn Harps by a point following Harps draw with St. Pats in Inchicore on Friday and if they want to eliminate some of the stress for the final day, they need to go and take three points off Longford and put two points between themselves and Ollie Horgan's Ballybofey outfit.

Blues striker John Martin was the lone goal scorer for the home team at the RSC last weekend and while he's happy to be bagging goals this year, he'd rather be in a situation where the team is in a healthier position on the table.

Yeah, it's always nice to be on the scoresheet and it's been a decent season for me individually but that's not worth a whole lot unless the team is where we want to be and we're not at the minute. I'm happy to have helped the team with goals and performances or whatever, but like the gaffer said it's all about the team performance at the end of the day so it doesn't matter what I do.

For the last number of weeks, the conversation around the team was that every game had become the biggest game they've played. It's par for the course when a team is fighting for survival. This week, nothing has changed and Martin sees this clash with Longford as yet again - the biggest game of the season.

Yeah, obviously, the biggest game of the season now and I have been saying that for the last three or four games, really, they've all been Cup finals like the gaffer said, every single one of them, we let ourselves down a bit, the fact that we've had to leave it to the last two games, really. We had it in our own hands, and now I think it could swing 50/50 really. Us and Harps and Drogheda could be dragged into it. There's no point in talking about them, it's all about was now and focussing on this game. Forget about the last game at the minute. We just need to knuckle down now for the last two weeks of the season, wherever it is, and just focus on getting results.

While Longford have not provided any great challenge to visiting teams this year, a wounded animal can be dangerous, and a team with nothing to lose can be just as lethal. With just 90 minutes left for the team to entertain their home fans, they won't take anything lying down and the Blues will need to have their heads screwed on for the duration.

We know they're going down, they know they're going down. They want to be impressive for the last game that they're going to have in the Premier Division for a while. We're approaching it the exact same as the Shamrock Rovers game where they're champions or any other game like it's the exact same.

It's not gonna be about tactics gonna be about the desire and determination - they're gonna get you over the line. So that's the most important thing for us.
