Even though results are hard to come by, Déise football captain Dermot Ryan is proud to pull on the county jersey.
The Nire defender has been part of the senior set-up for the past four seasons. Ephie Fitzgerald's side have only managed one win in 2023 but playing for Waterford still means a lot to Ryan and his team mates.
"Any lad that's in with us this year is really enjoying it. There's a lot of pride to be able to represent your county in league, Munster championship and Tailteann Cup. There's very few players that get to do it. There's only 36 on our panel; 36 out of all the clubs in Waterford get that opportunity. That's the carrot for anyone outside the panel and for anyone outside of Waterford football."
Waterford travel to Semple Stadium on Sunday to tackle Tipperary in the Munster quarter final. 1988 was the last time that the Déise beat the Premier County in the championship.
