Man-of-the-match Tadhg de Burca is delighted to be back in blue and white and representing Waterford following his stellar showing in yesterday’s 0-22 to 1-11 win against Offaly in Division 1B of the Allianz National Hurling League.

The Clashmore Kinsalebeg club man returned from another lengthy injury absence and played a starring role as Waterford topped the league table and booked their place in the decider against the Faithful County in two weeks’ time at Croke Park.

de Burca told WLR Sport that it was an important victory in a number of aspects.

“Very important. I suppose we all want to be up there with the best teams in the country. Division 1A is where they’re at, so it’s definitely a boost for the county and to be up there again next year. They made it very tough. Offaly are an up-and-coming team. There’s no fear of them, they’re a very good side. They’re definitely on the way up, going forward into the Championship too – but I suppose with the extra man, it made things a bit easier for us.”

He described it as a ‘privilege’ to be back in a Waterford shirt following his 10-month spell on the sidelines.

“It’s a great privilege to be put on the shirt every day you go out. It’s great. It’s great to be back.  I’m back on the field over the last three or four months, training away, just trying to get things right. Look at the physios and everyone working with the squad. They’re preparing as well. They’re getting us in the best possible shape we can, so very thankful for them.”

The All-Star defender told WLR that working under Peter Queally and his management team has been an ‘enjoyable’ experience so far.

“There’s a great bond between the squad, a great bond between the management team as well. That’s hugely important going forward, to have great morale. Hopefully, it stands to us going to the Munster Championship. In two weeks’ time, look, it’ll be great to get silverware if we can – but it’s all about the Munster Championship really, and really getting prepared as best we can for that.”
