Ballysaggart forward Stephen Bennett is to make his 100th appearance for Waterford this afternoon in their Munster Senior Hurling Championship opener against Clare.
The All-Star winning forward has been part of Deise panels that reached both the 2017 and 2020 All-Ireland Finals – while he also picked up league honours in 2015 and 2022.
Bennett was also famously part of the Waterford sides that won the minor and under-21 All Irelands respectively in 2013 and 2016.
He has hit a whopping 38-546 in his time in white and blue at senior level.
Stephen Bennett is just 0-36 shy of becoming Waterford’s all-time championship top scorer, as he has hit 9-191 in championship since making his debut in 2014.
Former Ballygunner ace Paul Flynn holds the record with 24-181.
Bennett’s achievements are all the more commendable considering he underwent double hip surgery before turning 20-years-old.
Now 29, Bennett admitted earlier this year that retirement had crossed his mind – but thankfully, he chose to give it another go.
He lines out alongside brothers Kieran and Shane this afternoon in what is a crucial match in Waterford’s season.
