Sport Ireland CEO John Treacy has said that the sporting body is on track to restore funding to the football association by July.

Funding to the FAI was suspended in April 2019 amid concerns around corporate governance. Sport Ireland had been providing €2.5m per year to the association for a number of programs.

At the time, the Board of Sport Ireland outlined that they had decided to suspend and withhold future funding to the FAI in accordance with Clause 1.1 of Sport Ireland’s Terms and Conditions of Grant Approval.

Mr. Treacy was a guest on WLR's 'On The Ball with Nigel Kelly' this week when he outlined the progress that has been made with the FAI - stating that a number of independent board members had been found and that financial oversight systems were now being implemented as required by Sport Ireland.
