Sligo Rovers have announced the decision to lay off all management, players and administration staff due to the uncertainty surrounding the League of Ireland's return date because of Covid-19.

In a lengthy statement, the club say the layoffs are temporary but that it was the only way to secure the longer-term future of the club.

Sligo say all staff will be allowed return to their jobs on their regular wage when the League of Ireland resumes.

The FAI has been in discussions since last week with the National League Executive Committee and the PFAI in response to the pandemic.

If football doesn't resume in June, there's a possibility the 2020 season could be scrapped with a new winter campaign brought in instead.
