Patricia Jackman was the player that Lorraine Bray idolised when she joined the Waterford camogie panel ten years ago.
“She was somebody that you could go to if you ever felt you underperformed or for anything. You could literally go to her for anything. She’d message you before you’d message her just to check in and see were you alright. She was definitely a player that I looked up to.”
They won an All Ireland intermediate title together in 2015. Bray was named Player of the Match in that final against Kildare at Croke Park. “She always put that sense of belief in me. That I was well capable of performing and reaching certain standards that I probably didn’t believe myself at the time, being so young. She definitely instilled a belief in me that other people didn’t or couldn’t.”
Bray will captain Waterford in Sunday's Division 1B final against Wexford at Semple Stadium. Sean Power's side won all five games in the group stages including a twelve point win over their South East rivals.
Waterford v Wexford will be the first part of a Big Match Double Header on Sunday. Coverage starts at 11.50 with thanks to George Corbett Skoda.
