West Waterford man Seamus Power is well in contention for this first PGA Tour title since October 2022 as he enters the final round of the John Deere Classic just three shots off the lead.
The Touraneena man hasn’t tasted victory on tour since claiming the Butterfield Bermuda Championship almost three years ago – but is timing his run to perfection so far in Illinois, as he is in desperate need of a victory to ensure his full tour card for the years ahead.
Seamus Power currently sits 141st in the FedEx Cup standings – outside the top 125 which would assure him of full tour privileges for 2026.
The world number 141, who was once ranked as high as world number 28 – shot a round of -3 to move to -12 overall yesterday, just three shots off leader Davis Thompson (-15) heading into tonight’s final round.
Power sunk an impressive 25-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole – he had earlier knocked in successive birdies on the fifth and sixth holes which looked to give him impetus, only to end up back on even par for his day after bogeys on the par-3 seventh and par-4 ninth.
Birdies on 11, 12 and then that fine finish on 18 means it’s all to play for later today – he tees off alongside Austin Eckroat at 7.15pm Irish time.
Power is T6 overall on the leaderboard – joined by Eckroat, Camilo Villegas and Kurt Kitayama on -12.
Davis Thompson leads on -15, one ahead of a pair of four on -14 in a tightly-packed leaderboard – those four being Max Homa, Brian Campbell, David Lipsky and Emiliano Grillo.
Victory for Power this evening would guarantee him a two-year PGA Tour exemption, as well as entry into signature events.
There is also $1.5m on offer for the winner of the tournament.
