Seamus Power has been forced to withdraw from the opening round of the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club after just nine holes, with a hip injury that now threatens his participation in next week's Open Championship.
Power, who lies 11th in the European Ryder Cup World Points list, needs good showing over the next few weeks to re-ignite his hopes of making the trip to Rome. With The Scottish Open being an elevated event on the PGA Tour and next week's final major of the season also offering enhanced FedEx Cup and World Ranking points, it will be a huge blow to the Waterford man if he misses out.
Having started on the back nine. he was two over par after his nine holes this morning. Bogies at the 11th, 14th and 17th were offset by a lone birdie on the 13th.
He is also projected to fall to 30th in the FedEx Cup standings after today's withdrawal.
